There are many things in life that we take for granted. When is the last time you were truly thankful for air, water or even a warm meal? For many people, our lives are so full of blessing that we forget about all of the simple things that make our lives to much easier and better. I recently thought about just how different our lives would be without one simple thing: chairs.
Can you imagine life without any chairs? I certainly cannot. Think about all the places you rely on chairs to make your life comfortable and easy. Remember, for example, the many years you spent in school. Other than perhaps story time in kindergarden, your time in school was spent sitting in chairs to learn. Our lives would be very different if we had to make it through math, science and english classes sitting on the floor. Or think about the lunch room. Can you imagine eating lunch on the floor with all your friends each day?
When I thought about the blessing that chairs are to our lives, I couldn’t help but think about restaurants. In some countries in the world it is common to sit on the floor to eat. Can you imagine going out for a fancy dinner with your family or friends and having to sit in your nice suit or dress on the floor? Of course not. Think of what would happen if you went to attend a formal party or wedding reception and discovered that you would be seated on the floor, without chairs, for the entire evening. I bet your time at the party would not last as long as you were expecting.
If you love going to the movies as much as I do then you appreciate the comfort of the theature chairs that you sit in each time you enjoy a new film. Picture yourself going to the movie theature for the next great film and having to sit in a mass of strangers on the floor in front of the screen. Sound strange? I agree. Next time you head into a theature and sit in the chairs smile and be thankful.
Probably the place that I take having great chairs for granted in is my home. There is nothing better than coming home and enjoying the newspaper in your favorite rocking chair or reading a book in a recliner. Can you imagine your home without chairs? Mine would be quite empty and very uncomfortable.
Once you start thinking about all of the places that you enjoy sitting on chairs it isn’t hard to imagine how different our lives would be without them. So sit down in one of your favorite chairs, enjoy it, and be very thankful you have it today.

Newton’s black-box physics.
From laws of force and motion in mechanics, Isaac Newton developed laws of orbital motion around ‘centres of force’ and saw gravity as governing the motions of the celestial bodies as well as apples falling from trees. But despite using the ‘force’ terminology perhaps more readily associated with mechanics, Newton concluded that gravity might be due to unseen signals acting across empty space in line with William Gilbert’s physics theory, or might be caused by the impact force of unseen ether matter in line with Rene Descartes physics. But Newton saw his laws of science as correctly predicting natural events without the need to know why things happened, in the manner of ‘black box’ behaviour laws that related only inputs or stimuli to outputs or responses. Newton considered hypotheses regarding unseens like ‘gravity signals crossing space’ or ‘ether matter filling space’ as matters of philosophy or logic and not science, but as not easily disproven by science. Newton’s physics was about what the universe did, but explicitly excluded explanations of why.
Up to Albert Einstein’s time, physicists and astronomers had been almost all agreed that the physical universe followed basically simple laws of behaviour, and that their observations and experiments showed that. But technology and experiments became more sophisticated and seemed to be showing that the physical universe followed more complex laws of behaviour, perhaps even defying logic, and so Einstein developed his physics theory.

Einstein’s view of gravity involved a substantially different kind of Descartes ‘ether matter’ filling space. And in Einstein’s space-time continuum, time itself becomes variable. There hence can be no space nor any part of space without gravitational potentials; for these confer upon space-time its metrical qualities, without which a space-time continuum cannot be imagined at all.
Einstein being dishonest to himself ?
In Einstein’s general relativity physics bodies impose curves on his time-space-gravity continuum, and the continuum imposes motion on bodies. Although push-physics analogies such as rubber-sheets are often used to ‘explain’ this, the theory does not involve any push-physics mechanism and indeed does not specify any clear mechanism for this. Gravitational forces of any kind are completely abolished as controlling the motion of planets or other bodies, and somehow space-curves do this – logically by pushings yet seemingly without having any push properties since the continuum is non-material ?
Einstein concluded that “the ether of the general theory of relativity is a medium which is itself devoid of all mechanical and kinematical qualities, but helps to determine mechanical (and electromagnetic) events.” But if this leaves the improved maths of Einstein’s theory with no realistic explanation of why the universe works as it does, then his theory must be basically taken (as Newton intended his theory to be taken) as a blackbox theory of what happens with the real why explanation an unknown.
Yet Einstein did repeatedly allow of ‘rubber-sheets’ type anologies for his theory’s supposed why explanations – when it actually has no why explanation. He was perhaps not being intentionally dishonest to the world, but almost certainy was being dishonest with himself in not fully facing his theory’s chief weakness – its being basically an improved Newton black-box physics and not more than that ?
The maths of Einstein’s theory certainly seems to predict better than the maths of Newton’s theory in some areas, but that in itself is perhaps no proof of Einstein’s theory of what the universe is and does – and still less of any explanation of why it works ? Albert Einstein’s theory of relativity even he considered to be at least incomplete, and perhaps also giving no real explanation, and now it perhaps is chiefly supported by cosmologists and astronomers. But despite modern quantum physics development like string, loop and other quantal theories that seem supported mostly by ‘particle physicists’ using field and particle-wave duality ideas, it can perhaps be said that nobody has yet successfully published any physics theory better than Einstein’s still limited theory ?

Adverts on the television and in the newspapers and magazines all seem to show these young peoples who look like a good meal would do them the world of good.
Personally, I have looked like I was ten months pregnant for many years and was often devastated when feeling like I looked good, then someone would ask me if I was pregnant. I’m still being asked if I’m pregnant and I’m now 66 years old. Then after years of exercises for my tummy and a lightened purse through buying the latest ‘Tummy Flattener’ I have now found out that with having Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) my swollen tummy is just one of the unpleasant signs and symptoms of that disease. I’m sure I’m not alone with this problem and if you have a swollen tummy, maybe I’ve just given you a reason or excuse for it.
But I know from the above experience, if you are not a Twiggy, you have a feeling of being different and so not as attractive as you would like to be. This causes stress.
Stress is a form of worrying. That old saying that worry brings wrinkles ……. well it can do can’t it? If you are worried / stressed you will frown more than you smile. Another useless piece of information for you, stored in my memory box for many years, when you smile you use only thirteen of your facial muscles; but when you frown you use thirty-nine. So stop tiring yourself out by frowning.
It is only when you realise that you are overweight and that you can lose weight, then and only then is when you will do something about it.
It’s no use blaming it on your glands or your ancestors, if you are overweight you must accept full responsibility. You have been in the habit of taking in more calories than you have used up with some activity.
So to save yourself being too stressed, decide to do something about it and lose weight.
Now to go back to your being overweight and the stress factor. You will only feel better about yourself when you go on a weight loss programme. As the pounds and inches start to disappear, so your good feelings about yourself will increase.
