You enter a narrow corridor. Flanking the walls are two glass-paneled cabinets. The air is still. The path is stark. You perceive a wider space at the end of the hall. The effect is almost ethereal. But something must be changed, according to the request of the owner of the house.
The architect found it amusing that he was essentially remodeling his own work. Just as well, he contended, because this was a project he had done years before, and he candidly admits that as the years go by, aside from the fading of colors, tastes change, and trends evolve, too. He said that it is natural to find what we once thought as cutting edge to be outdated years later.
That is what remodeling is all about. People do not just merely want to remodel their house just because they have to. There are instances wherein remodeling is deemed necessary because some people thought that they wanted something new, something that would create a new aura around the house.
Surveys show that the average American households are inclined to remodel their houses after 10 to 20 years has elapsed. There are times that the house still looks good as new but because the house owners wanted remodeling, everything was changed.
So when people want to modify. Rectify, enhance, or simply replace, or correct anything that is wrong with the house, they could always seek the help of a person who knows what remodeling is all about.
The Impression it Creates
In remodeling, there are times that people wanted to make use of neglected space on the ground floor. With this process, you can even extend the living area up to the outside garden.
Remodeling can also add cleaner lines and illusion of space. And if you want to structurally place the house in a complete change, the walls has to be knocked down, alter the layout, and modify the roof and faade. Even the location of the stairs can be changed.
Here is a list of the things that you can change while on the process of remodeling:
1. Windows
Opting for bigger windows is a good idea. If you think that your house needs remodeling, try to consider changing your windows into bigger outlines that would enable the entry of more light and establish picturesque sights.
2. Roof
Create an illusion of a bigger space by lifting the roof.
3. Add-ons
Remodel the whole house by adding some embellishments at the front. You can even add an obscured entrance for a more dramatic effect.
4. Landscaping
Through this process, you can inevitably create a more panoramic view by adding some trees on the pathway. Landscaping is usually taken into account if you want to create an illusion of natures touch or simply to alter the focal point of the house.
5. Faade
You can change the look of your houses faade by changing the height of your deck, porch, or veranda. If your house lacks some of it at the front, try to build one. The look will be very enticing to look at.
All of these things are boiled down to the fact that the designer or the architects attention to the details should not be lost all throughout the house. With remodeling, the theme of the house should go with the furnitures to be used and the colors to be embedded at every wall, adding richness and opulence to an otherwise subdued modern home.
The point here is that remodeling should bring back the pieces of the house in such a way that it creates new dimensions and disciplined illusions of artistic and creative construction. That is simply the beauty of remodeling.

Social phobia or social anxiety is often a very misunderstood disorder. Many people are fearful, anxious or phobic about something — a dark room, a fury cat, being on top of a tall building, or being in a small, cramped room. These fears or phobias may be exaggerated or irrational yet they cause so much distraction and distress.
In the long list of fears known to man, perhaps one of the most difficult to bear is the condition called social anxiety disorder. This disorder refers to the constant fear of being criticized by other people. People who have this problem are so self-conscious to the point that they feel that everyone around them is looking at them. In the process, socially anxious people become afraid of the world around them.
According to National Institute of Mental Health, “…social phobia is characterized by overwhelming anxiety in everyday social situations. It can be any type of situation—such as fear of speaking in formal or informal situations.”
Anxiety in social situations is not felt by shy, insecure people alone. Famous people like the singer Donny Osmond (the brother of Marie Osmond) also had social anxiety. In a very intimate interview, Donny Osmond revealed that, for years, he struggled with stage freight and would experience anxiety panic attacks right before a public performance.
Another famous person diagnosed with social anxiety disorder is singer-actress Barbara Streisand, who, in 1967, became so anxious that she forgot the lyrics of song in front of a large crowd. She was so embarrassed that she stayed away from performing in public for a long time after that moment of “song amnesia.”
The great actor Laurence Olivier who stunned audiences with his theatrical genius also struggled with social phobia for five years just when he was at the peak of his career.
Social anxiety disorder is not so easy to spot in a person. A person with so much insecurity and anxiety in being in the middle of a social occasion can still hide his predicament. Even with all the anxiety, that person can still act witty and gregarious.
But there are some people who literally freeze whenever they face a crowd or even a small number of people. Their excessive self-consciousness somehow paralyzes them, making them unable to function well in social circles. At first glance, people with social anxiety disorder may exhibit chronic fear, sweating, trembling, stammering, and blushing whenever they stand in front of people. They are also easily embarrassed or humiliated by even the slightest hint of being at the center of attention.
Social phobia affects more than five million Americans and is now the third most common disorder after depression and alcoholism. It affects all gender and ages but usually starts in childhood or early adolescence. It is often accompanied by depression and some have fallen into the trap of substance abuse in the hope that drugs would help them cope with their anxieties. They feel distress whenever they have this following situations:
l Being introduced;
l Being teased;
l Being criticized;
l Being at the center of attention; or
l Being “out of place.”
One of the most common treatments for social anxiety disorder is called cognitive-behavioral therapy. Medication such as antidepressant prescriptions are used conjunction with the said therapy. Social anxiety, as well as other forms of anxiety, can be successfully treated today if a patient works with a qualified therapist or doctor. A physician can determine whether the symptoms that alarm you are due to anxiety disorder, or if these are symptoms of another medical condition. As they say, there is nothing to fear but fear itself. Commitment and determination to face one’s fears will surely lead to freedom, confidence, and a better appreciation for people and life itself.

Increasing overall Health with Nutritional Supplements

Do you want an improved quality of life with more energy? Do you want to protect yourself from disease while reducing your chances of heart disease? Do you want to look and feel younger? You can do all of these things and more simply by making a few changes in your lifestyle by supplementing a healthy diet with professional nutritional supplements.
“But I eat healthy,” you might say. That may be but if you are not supplementing your diet with nutritional supplements then you likely have certain nutritional deficiencies. You might be eating everything you should be but the problem is that the majority of our fruits and vegetables today do not have the nutrients they once had. They have been stripped of their valuable nutrients by big business farming practices, premature picking and improper storage practices. While we may think we are eating well we are eating empty calories from nutrient stripped food grown in land stripped of the necessary minerals to produce healthy food.
Could this improper nutrition be why we have so much disease today? Consider your grandparents and their families and think about how long they lived. You will find that for the most part they lived longer and without the help of pharmaceutical medications. Elderly people today seem to be on long lists of drugs and they are still plagued by Alzheimers and other disease. There were two differences in their lives. They were not subject to the environmental hazards which plague our world today and their food was wholesome.
Our food is probably not going to get any better. Therefore it is a necessity to supplement with professional quality nutritional supplements.
With so many supplements on the market making outrageous claims it can be difficult to know which ones are good. Some supplements claim that you must use a liquid supplement because tablets don’t break down in the body. This is simply not true. If it were, most of our medications would be in liquid form. This is only a problem when tablet supplements are not designed with quality in mind so that they break down. In fact, liquid supplements are not as effective as properly made tablets because the acid in the stomach attacks it before it has a chance to be absorbed into the blood stream. Pharmaceutical grade medications have solved this problem by using a special enteric coating which is designed to protect the tablet while it passes through the stomach. Our third generation Total Balance supplements now use this coating technology.
The delivery systems or coating is one aspect of a quality supplement but what about the formula itself. Of equal importance is the quality of the ingredients and the manufacturing and blending procedures.
Not only are the ingredients important but the formula mixture is also vital to a quality supplement. Different ingredients react differently with each other. They can react in a positive way but also in dangerous ways. Dr. A. Munem, head of our Research and Development department, examines how our ingredients interact with each other to ensure correct formulas.
Selecting the right ingredients is very important because there can be huge variances in ingredients from different manufacturers. Biotin for example is available from 3% potency to 99% potency. While most manufacturers use raw ingredients with approximately 20% active ingredients we use more potent versions which have 60% potency.
Click here for more information on How to Fix Liquid Detected in Lightning Connector on iPhone: Fix in seconds. Or click here if you’re looking for information on Best Vacuum for Pet Hair 2022: 10 Best options to get rid of Dust, Dander and HairThe other problem with so many supplements is that they often do not contain what they claim to contain. First of all, this occurs because of the fact that there are no regulatory requirements in the USA where these supplements are made. This problem is then made worse because of the intense competition among supplement manufacturers. Secondly, this happens because of the complexity of the blending process.
It is important that you understand the issues around supplements and how to choose good quality nutritional supplementation. Something to also keep in mind is that just because a product says it is manufactured in an FDA approved facility or a pharmaceutical facility this only means that the facility has met certain hygiene requirements.
We follow all of the above procedures in producing our supplements because our business is based on establishing life long satisfied customers. In order to do this we must provide the best value for the money of any professional health supplement. In fact, we guarantee this in writing!

Q: Do I need a contractors license in order to build a backyard deck onto my home?
A: Generally, no. Individuals who are doing any type of construction on their own home are not required to obtain a contractors license. If you have any questions regarding the building of backyard decks as a commercial business, on the other hand, you may need a contractors license and/or other special permits.
Q: Will I need a building permit before building a backyard deck? How can I get one?
A: Prior to beginning any type of construction project, including backyard decks, you will need to request a building permit. Failure to do so may result in fines, so be sure to file the necessary paperwork at your local courthouse in the office that issues building permits. Before doing so, make sure that you have the exact size and dimensions of the backyard deck that you wish to build. If you have a drawing, have a copy with you incase you are asked to provide one.
Q: Even though I am not familiar with construction of any kind, I would like to try building a backyard deck. Should I do all of the work myself or hire a professional contractor?
A: There is no yes or no answer to this question. The bottom line is that if you feel comfortable in doing the job, you can attempt to complete the project yourself. However, if any part of the construction is unclear or becomes complicated, you should call a contractor to at least come in and inspect your work. If needed, a professional can take over the job even after you began construction.
Q: Im not sure if I can complete the construction on my backyard deck, but I dont want to spend the money to hire a contractor. Can I start on the construction and then call a contractor if I run into problems?
A: Yes, but this isnt necessarily the best plan of action. If you start the job and run into serious problems with the construction, a contractor may end up charging you even more to go in and correct the problem before completing the deck than if they were to be the primary builder from the beginning. Therefore, you should only start the construction on your backyard deck if you are confident that you can complete the job.
Q: If I do hire a contractor, how can I select the best one for my backyard deck project?
A: First of all, make sure that you choose a professional who is licensed to work in your state. Secondly, check out the contractors reputation with the local Better Business Bureau and confirm the number of years they have been in business. And last but not least, make sure they are knowledgeable in the construction of backyard decks and get everything in writing before handing over a deposit.

A bath tub is a relaxing thing to have in ones bathroom. After a very stressful day at work or at school, a person could just retire and relax at the comfort of his/her bath tub. It has proven its usefulness and most people who have it will spend a lot of money to make sure it is working properly and that it stays that way.
However, even if these people loved and took care of the tub, there will still be some problems as the bath tub grows old. Stains and cracks will show. Leaks will appear and faucets will not work. While some of these can be remedied easily, others will require help. Here are some questions most bath tub lover will ask about repairing their bath tubs.
Why Repair a Bath Tub When You Can Just Buy a Replacement?
This question is the most frequently asked question by most bath tub users. Bath tubs costs just around $100 and most of them can afford it. However, when they consider the cost of the demolition, removal and disposal of the tub plus plumbing then add the cost of setting tiles and flooring/carpentry involved, they might have an estimate of about $2000. This cost is too much when a repair will just cost them much less than that.
What is Bath Tub Restoration?
During years of use bath tubs tend to have stains and will probably have scratches here and there. Bath tub restoration includes taking those stains and scratches out. These can be done either by hired help or by yourself. Even though this can be done by untrained people, it is recommended to hire a trained person to do this for your bath tub.
Bath tub restoration involves washing the surface and applying a solvent. It will then be neutralized, etched and sandpapered. Bath tub restoration, when done properly will give your bathroom a new glow, making it look cleaner and brighter.
What is Bath Tub Refinishing?
After bath tub restoration, refinishing must be done to make it last longer and to require you to restore it less than necessary. Refinishing should be done by trained craftsmen as they use a special chemical called Aliphatic Acrylic Polyurethane Enamel. This job can be easily finished in a day so you should have your bath tub in less than a day.
What are Bath Tub Liners and Why Should I Think of Using Them?
Bath tub liners are custom-made to fit your bath tub. These liners will make sure that chipping and scratches on your tub is already history. A new bath tub liner is installed on a bath tub and it can be done a matter of hours. There is no additional cost as the plumbing, flooring and tiles are completely untouched.
Should You Do the Job Yourself or Should You Hire a Specialist?
A specialist will cause you more but repairs on your tub will last longer. Unless you do a very satisfactory job, it is recommended to ask for a specialists help as the cost of hiring one is worth than the cost of doing it again and the inconvenience it will bring you.
When Should I Consider Buying a New Tub?
Buying a new bath tub is only recommended when the total cost estimated by the specialist will cost you more than buying and reinstalling a new tub, then go for a new tub.

The term “toxic mold” is not accurate. While certain molds are toxigenic, meaning they can produce toxins (specifically mycotoxins), the molds themselves are not toxic, or poisonous. Hazards presented by molds that may produce mycotoxins should be considered the same as other common molds which can grow in your house. There is always a little mold everywhere – in the air and on many surfaces. There are very few reports that toxigenic molds found inside homes can cause unique or rare health conditions such as pulmonary hemorrhage or memory loss.
These case reports are rare, and a causal link between the presence of the toxigenic mold and these conditions has not been proven. A common-sense approach should be used for any mold contamination existing inside buildings and homes. The common health concerns from molds include hay fever-like allergic symptoms. Certain individuals with chronic respiratory disease (chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder, asthma) may experience difficulty breathing. Individuals with immune suppression may be at increased risk for infection from molds.
If you or your family members have these conditions, a qualified medical clinician should be consulted for diagnosis and treatment. For the most part, one should take routine measures to prevent mold growth in the home.
Mold spores occur in the indoor and outdoor environments. Mold spores may enter your house from the outside through open doorways, windows, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems with outdoor air intakes. Spores in the air outside also attach themselves to people and animals, making clothing, shoes, bags, and pets convenient vehicles for carrying mold indoors.
When mold spores drop on places where there is excessive moisture, such as where leakage may have occurred in roofs, pipes, walls, plant pots, or where there has been flooding, they will grow. Many building materials provide suitable nutrients that encourage mold to grow. Wet cellulose materials, including paper and paper products, cardboard, ceiling tiles, wood, and wood products, are particularly conducive for the growth of some molds. Other materials such as dust, paints, wallpaper, insulation materials, drywall, carpet, fabric, and upholstery, commonly support mold growth.
Stachybotrys chartarum (also known by its synonym Stachybotrys atra) is a greenish-black mold. It can grow on material with a high cellulose and low nitrogen content, such as fiberboard, gypsum board, paper, dust, and lint. Growth occurs when there is moisture from water damage, excessive humidity, water leaks, condensation, water infiltration, or flooding. Constant moisture is required for its growth. It is not necessary, however, to determine what type of mold you may have. All molds should be treated the same with respect to potential health risks and removal.
People with allergies may be more sensitive to molds. People with immune suppression or underlying lung disease are more susceptible to fungal infections.

If you are trying to be economic, you are best advised to not try to maintain a central HVAC equipment and a whole house air purifier simultaneously. Unless you have money to waste, you had better use those hard earned bucks to get other equipments for improving the quality of the air in your house.
A HVAC (or rather a Heating Ventilating, Air Conditioning) system shares your homes central blower and ductwork. So unless you keep it squeaky clean and dust free it will sprout these irritable elements into the very air you breathe. And, this wont change even if you add a swanky, pricey upstream filter system.
Most HVAC air purifiers are fixed before motors and fans in order to save them (the latter that is) from large granular stuff. There function therefore is not as an air cleanser. In fact they are not even equipped to purify your air; they have a meager 1000 cu. Foot/minute airflow, which is not a good enough speed to really cleanse your air. The air flow at each of its duct is only as high powered as a tiny fan!
The air from your whole house system does not blow quite the same everywhere. It chooses to flow through areas where it receives the least obstruction. Cool air has an affinity towards the lower part of the room, and therefore completely avoids the upper parts, especially the little corners. Wherever there is a little niche or cubbyhole it deposits dust and dirt. So entire house might be getting a number of air changes per hour, ultimately the lower part receives dirty air.
Imagine a flowing river with plunging bank cuts and tiny rapids. Consider what its speed will be if it is followed by lazy flats complete with sandbars. This is what your HVAC is like, full with rapid airflow and all, but ultimately not a very efficient air cleanser.
As a part of whole house purification system an HVAC blower has to function all the time. Most HVACs used at homes are not built to be strong enough to pull in the air through the well shut HEPA filter. Thus it must be ensured that they arent over run and in the process heated overtly. This is, however, unavoidable incase if your furnace filter is built of fiberglass and is kept unclean.
Another serious problem with HEPA is their habit of creating heavy static backpressure. Thus, they cannot be fixed directly into the regular residential system. To solve this problem therefore, vendors include an expensive bypass vent circuit and much stronger secondary purifiers. Most partial bypass systems are incapable of performing their required functions to the extent necessary. Therefore dirty air easily flows through the main duct.
Before buying and fixing a whole house air purifier make sure the air ducts in your system is cleansed out rigorously.
Given that we are not required to see or hear it regularly, we tend to bypass all thoughts of our air conditioning systems completely from our minds. Lets be objective, obviously a whole house air cleaner is preferable to a portable air cleaner. Consider, suppose your portable air cleaner suddenly starts malfunctioning then you take it to your vendor asap. This doesnt come in the way of your houses heating or cooling which continues despite the air being unclean. On the other hand a minor glitch which you probably look beyond in case of a whole house system becomes a reason for you to run to your vendor in case of a portable system.
If you want to improve the quality of the air in your house reasonably try and get rid of all toxic sources. Make sure your ventilation is channelized plausibly and circulation is truly possible. Regularly clean your HVAC system, and dont leave out any pan duct or coil. Keep replacing your furnace filters with the latest ones. Also, try and use premium chemical-capable portable room air-purifiers in your bedrooms.
If you still have money to spare spend it on getting a central vacuum system for your entire house. This will spit out all the dirty air in your house right outside. Else get yourself a quality sealed HEPA filter vacuum cleaner.
With additional money where available, consider installing a central vacuum system for the whole house, which exhausts 100% of all dirty air outside. Or choose a quality sealed HEPA filter vacuum cleaner.

7 Steps To Control Childhood Asthma

Asthma is the most common chronic childhood disease. This article gives 7 clear steps that can be taken to manage the condition and reduce its impact on your child.

Asthma is the most common chronic (long-term) childhood disease. In America about nine million children are diagnosed with asthma. Up to ten per cent of children in Europe are also suffering from asthma symptoms. Unfortunately parents of these children are often uninformed about the various ways to control childhood asthma.
If you suspect your child has asthma the first priority is correct diagnosis. However, be aware that symptoms can vary from episode to episode and not all wheezing and coughing is caused by asthma. Asthma-like symptoms in children younger than five are usually due to a virus or bacterial infection of the airways. However if your child is experiencing breathing difficulties it is best to get them to a doctor whatever the cause.
About eighty per cent of children who develop asthma do so before the age of five. Studies show that children living in rural areas have lower rates of asthma than those who live in cities, particularly if they spent their first five years in a rural area. For children living in inner cities the cockroach allergen seems to worsen asthma symptoms more than dust mite or pet allergens. Therefore another important step in the control of your child’s asthma is to ensure that general cleaning and maintenance routines are followed to ensure cockroaches are not encouraged into the home. Levels of cockroach allergens have been found to be highest in high-rise apartments.
Another factor that has been linked to the development of asthma in children is exposure to smoke. A study in Norway showed that almost ten per cent of adult asthma patients had experienced passive smoking during early childhood. Therefore another step to take at home is to ensure that your child is not exposed to tobacco smoke.
If your doctor recommends the use of medication the next step is to encourage your child to take the medicine. Asthma is one of the main causes for emergency room visits by children. Yet studies have shown that up to half of these hospitalizations may be preventable if children, particularly teenagers, followed their medication schedule correctly, avoided their asthma triggers and made regular visits to the doctor.
Perhaps fear of side effects or dependency, or an impression that it is uncool to be seen taking medicines is preventing children taking their medication as regularly as they should. Perhaps intermittent asthma symptoms persuade children and their parents that it is not important to take medication if there are no symptoms. This is a mistake. Even when there are no obvious symptoms an asthmatic’s lungs will be inflamed to some degree.
The fact that the condition seems to run in families with a history of asthma or allergies suggests that certain people are born with a predisposition to asthma. Some may believe you are born with the condition and there is nothing you can do. However a child’s environment can also play an important role. Studies have found that exposure to potential allergens like pets and pollen in the first six months of life may reduce the chance of developing asthma later. However exposure beyond six months of age has the opposite effect. Being born into a family that already has siblings also seems to reduce the chance of developing asthma.
It is known that children are more susceptible to viral and allergic triggers than adults. An important step in controlling your child’s asthma is identifying the triggers and teaching your child how to recognize their asthma triggers and avoid them. One possible trigger is ibuprofen, with over 100,000 children susceptible to asthma symptoms brought on by the drug.
Children tend to spend more time outside during the summer vacation. If pollen or high levels of ozone trigger your child’s asthma you need to monitor these. Physical exercise is a common trigger of childhood asthma. Teach your child to take medication if necessary, and do warm up exercises before strenuous activity and wind down exercises after.
If your child is going away to camp during the vacation make sure those in charge are aware of your child’s asthma management and action plans. There are camps designed specifically for asthma sufferers in the U.S. and Canada.
It is essential to have a written action plan that clearly states what medication to take and when, as well as how to respond to an asthma attack. You or your child may not remember what to do at a time when it may be difficult for them to breathe, so it is essential to have the important details in writing.
It is important you and your child remain calm during an attack as panic can produce more breathing difficulties. A parent’s instinct may be to cuddle their child, but that would constrict the chest further.
If asthma is diagnosed your next step is to inform your child’s school. Every school should allow access to asthma medication and some allow children to carry and self-administer their asthma medication if certain requirements are met.
Whilst we’re talking about schools here’s one often overlooked childhood asthma trigger. School buses are major s of pollution, and studies show children who ride them are exposed to five to fifteen times as much asthma triggering particulates inside the buses compared to outside. New Jersey recently passed a law requiring retrofitting of school buses and municipal vehicles to clean up tailpipe emissions. Is your state doing the same?
Remember, if asthma is confirmed you need to educate yourself. According to the experts knowledge is the best prescription. To stop the disease affecting your child’s life you need to know how to monitor and manage asthma. This will mean knowing how to use medications correctly, whether your child’s attacks are triggered by allergens and if so how to reduce exposure to them, and the lifestyle changes that will help your child prevent attacks.
Despite being a widespread disease there are still plenty of myths about asthma. One of the most damaging of these for children is the belief that the condition will improve every seven years or can even disappear completely. Unfortunately, any apparent improvement is probably due to hormonal changes as the child’s immune system matures. The underlying condition does not go away and not managing it can lead to long-term lung damage.

Usage of colour gives the designer a huge range of possibilities to implement his creative fantasy. Whatever is the size of your flat, it can be visually increased with the help of colour setting. All the richness and variety of tints can be brought to the seven colours of the basic spectrum that follow each other.
Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, dark blue, violet are chromatic colours. White, gray and black are achromatic, i.e. colourless.
Every colour induces certain associations, and preference for a certain colour is always individual and depends on characteristic traits of the personality. It is well-known that there is no accounting for tastes. Some people have highly developed colour perception, others don’t. You must have paid attention to the fact that some colours or their combinations are visually calming and set one’s mind to rest, some convey the feeling of joy, some cause nearly physical discomfort and others have a depressing effect. Of course, when you select the colours of setting, it is best to consult a designer.
When you choose the colour setting of this or that room of your house, you need to take into the account various factors: if the windows face the north, it is better to prefer warm colours, if it is the south, then cold colours will be appropriate. Other factors are the quality of lighting, because the colour reflects the light, and the kind of zone (whether it is a kitchen or a drawing-room, a children’s room or a study). Saturated, bright colours are the most suitable for setting of a drawing room or a dining room.
White and blue (associated with cleanness and water) are good for the bathroom, but are not suitable for a kitchen; for a drawing room and a kitchen you’d better choose yellow or orange colours, warm and soft tints of red and white. Besides don’t forget about parameters of the room – bright walls visually decrease the amount of space, while dark ones expand it. For instance, red, orange and yellow can help make a huge room with little furniture look smaller and more comfortable. When you choose the wall colour, remember that furniture, soft furnishings and curtains are to be in harmony with the walls. If furniture upholstery, covering on the trestle-bed and curtains are patterned, it is better to make walls plain. Combination of colours is to be approached thoughtfully, do not rely on chance. For example, it is better not to combine red and green, because it is difficult to perceive this combination, especially if these colours are given in equal proportions. Bright yellow can be a good background for any colour (in China collections of porcelain were always exhibited against a yellow background). Stencil looks well on a yellow wall. Green poorly matches all colours, except for various tints of the same colour.
Many peoples associate red with wealth, luxury and beauty. It is perceived as a symbol of excitement, loud communication, fuss. Well-matched tints of red look well in the hall, kitchen, children’s room, drawing room. If the room is set in cold tones, “patches” of red will make it more comfortable.
Orange is associated with the golden orange. And this means warmth, vivacity, joy. The interior of a cold northern room can be set in orange tones.
Yellow is a very “warm” colour. If your room is located on the northern side, abundance of yellow in the interior will produce the impression that your rooms are “cheerful”, sunny, even if in fact, sunrays are rare guests in your apartment. Psychologists think that yellow is suitable for people who have an active walk of life and can easily adapt to any environment. At the same time yellow can irritate, everything depends on a specific tint.
Green is considered to have a calming effect and be good both for eyes and soul. Most likely, it happens, because this colour is the closest to nature. Indeed, the canvases of ancient painters, where green tints predominate, “heal” the souls. Green is also considered to be the colour of conservatives, perhaps because it was favoured in Victorian England. Green looks good in interiors of big and light rooms. In setting of the office, we recommend that you use dark tints of dark blue and green. Various tints of dark blue cause different emotions. Blue is the colour of the sky, space, air, freedom. Deep blue conveys a feeling of calmness.
Navy-blue casts sorrow, some peoples consider it to be the colour of mourning. Psychologists recommend to use dark blue for a bedroom. Some people are very fond of violent, others abhor it. Violet is thought to be a “magic” colour – indeed, it conceals some mystery. Perhaps, the colour of the evening sky induces such associations? Artists think that violet has something painful and sad in it. It is better to use light tints of violet in living quarters, as deep and bright tints of violet bring about fatigue.
Gray is the “universal” colour, it harmonises with almost all other colours. Perhaps, it is the favourite colour of designers, as it has many tints and is a perfect background. It is calm and neutral, however, it is better to use it in combination with other colours, because sole gray can seem boring.
Finally, black and white. Two poles, two deeply symbolic colours, two extremes, but when combined, they emphasize and shade in each other, and thus create elaborate classics. Both colours are elegant, “universal” and never go out of fashion. We can say that they are beyond fashion.
Black marvelously shades in any colour and makes it more expressive. A verandah or a hall, if they are well-lit, can be finished with shining marble panels. Black seems to diffuse the borders of the room. In a bathroom you can use black mirror-like tiles. But take into the account that black absorbs light; abundance of black is possible, only when there is plenty of lighting.
Everybody loves white, it is the colour of freshness, cleanness, coolness, associated with cheerfulness and health. White is indispensable in small poorly-lit rooms. In a bathroom with no daylight, white tiled walls will reflect the light of the lamp, increase the illuminance of the room and visually “draw apart” the walls.
Of course, there is a great variety of all thinkable colour tints. Of greatest importance is your desire to find that very combination that corresponds to your vision of the interior setting. If the colour is rightly chosen, it can emphasize the advantage and conceal the defect. Unleash your fantasy. Remember about colour properties, when you select the setting. We have already mentioned that it is necessary to take into the account location of the room with regard to cardinal points. If the room faces the south, cold colours can predominate in the setting; if it is the north, choose warmer colours. Calm reserved colours are an ideal background for precious and expensive things. For example, solid furniture and a beautiful picture will look great against a light gray background. The colour of the walls should necessarily match the colour of furniture upholstery and floor topping.
In the kitchen it is better to use light tones of walls in combination with light furniture. If you want contrast, it can be created by bright dishware on the shelves, bright curtains, a pattern.
A bathroom, lit by only electrical lighting, looks best in bright tones. It is recommended to use white, pastel, light tints of yellow, green, blue and pink. Sanitary engineering pipes and joints are to painted the same colour. In lobbies, corridors and halls you can use contrasting colours for wall finishing. The ceiling can be “drawn down”, if its colour is several tints darker than walls. You can use wallpapers with horizontal stripes. The same effect can be reached, if the ceiling and the 30-40 cm of adjacent wall area is covered with a lighter paint.
The ceiling can be “lifted”, if it is painted white, better with a light blue tint. You can also paint or paper the walls up to the ceiling without slats, if horizontal stripes of warm colours dominate the wallpaper pattern.
Saturated warm and dark tones or wallpapers with large pattern contribute to visual minimization of big rooms. If the room is long and narrow, it is better to paint longitudinal walls in lighter tones, and crosswalls – in darker tones. Then the room will seem shorter and lower. It is effective, if one wall has a different colour. A small room can be visually expanded, using light, but cold colours. Light green, silver gray and light blue will visually expand the room. In small rooms it is undesirable to have dark furniture, dark curtains and carpets with dark tints. It is better to paint the doors in light tones – white, light gray and ivory. Floor with a light colour looks more pleasant, than a dark one. So, make your choice.
