2. If you want to add pattern to a room with fabric, here is a no fail guideline. Use a solid, and stripe, and a small-medium scale pattern. Let each of the three fabrics share at least one color. Finally, distribute the pattern throughout the room following the 60/30/10 ruleUse your primary fabric, (usually the solid) in 60% of the room, the next fabric in 30% of the room, and the last fabric throughout 10% of the room.

4. Simple throw pillows are easy and cheap to make, and can even be changed out with the seasons! Use them to add comfort to any room in your homeeven the outdoor ones! Add a simple throw, and any corner of your room becomes a hideaway.

5. Stitch up placemats, tablecloths, and runners to soften the hard furniture in the room. If you dont sew, you can use iron on hem tape to make your creations. Its inexpensive, and can be found in the sewing aisle of any discount store, or at your local fabric shop.

6. Use existing fabrics such as pretty quilts and unused sheets to create layered table covers. It adds instant romance to any room! Check out thrift shops and yard sales, or learn to make them on your own. Do a google search and find dozens of sites ready to help you learn to sew and quilt.

7. Use cheap muslin to add natural and romantic statements in a room. Twist and wrap yards of muslin around a curtain rod and let drape to the floor for a wonderful organic window treatment. You can simply tie a knot in the end to finish. If your budget is really pinched, you can use muslin to make your window treatments, then just add borders of your favorite fabric to save on yardage.

Dr Atkins’ death was extremely unexpected. On 8 April 2003, he fell on an icy street, lost his conscience and never recovered until his death, 9 days later. On 17 April 2003 medical support was withdrawn and Robert C. Atkins passed away. Soon after his death, nonbelievers and people who denied and blamed Atkins diet, showed very little compassion or sympathy. Rumors about dr. Atkins’ enormous weight on the very moment of death (258 pounds) and about a potential heart disease stirred the medical community, Atkins supporters and media, too. Veronika Atkins, the widow, was very upset and spoke out about the real circumstances of her husband’s death. She also felt extremely sad as the unkind rumors prevented her from grieving for her husband. Actually, there were two issues regarding dr Atkins’ death:

His unusual weight: 258 pounds. This weight was considered obese by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s body-mass index calculator. Unusual because the 6-foot tall doctor had always been a very active person and dieting himself for many years.
Dr. Atkins was suffering from a form of heart disease, of heart’s muscle, in fact. This seemed odd, too, since he had always insisted that his diet made the heart and the blood vessels stronger and lowered the cholesterol level. In January 2003, the author of Atkins diet plan had a heart stroke arrest, which confused people even more.

This was puzzling information and everybody waited for the truth to be unveiled. But dr. Atkins’ widow and a good friend of the deceased (Dr Keith Berkowitz) untangled the situation and presented their version:

Also, on his regular heart control, he found that his coronary arteries showed insignificant signs of coronary disease. Thus, Mayor Bloomberg insinuated that Atkins may have died from weight-related problems, not from head injuries. And all these just after he had sent the widow a condolence letter.

Dr. Atkins’ life was remarkable. His studies and efforts regarding proper nourishment, diet and an active lifestyle really helped people. Lately, dr Atkins had begun to receive international medical recognition. Everyone following dr Atkins diet had to admit that it really works; many people were satisfied and grateful for losing weight and attaining a new slim figure along with a new lifestyle. Without a doubt, anyone undertaking a diet – any diet – should be aware of some risks. Health risks. On the other side, Atkins diet which is a low carb eating regimen troubled the food industry. While Atkins meals (high protein foods, high fat) and Atkins supplements became notorious, others suffered a severe decline. Why should you drink water when you want to lose weight?
Water is a natural appetite suppressant . Do NOT underestimate the power of this statement. Lack of water can lead to over eating. You brain does not differentiate between hunger and thirst. So, when you think you are feeling hungry, your body may in fact be signalling to you that you are thirsty! If you are not consuming enough water each day and you feel hunger pains, chances are, your body really is crying out for water. In many instances people will find what they thought were hunger pangs were in fact, satisfied by water. Try it! You have nothing to lose, except some weight.
How do you know whether you are drinking enough water each day? Well the answer is not difficult. The average person needs around 6-8 large glasses every day.
Well then, how should you drink the 6-8 glasses per day? The aim is to drink water consistently. If you drink too much all at once or too fast, it will simply pass through you, with little or no benefit to your body.
If you are someone who enjoys the ‘taste’ of water, then perhaps you could fill a 1 litre empty soft drink container with water the drink through it twice during the day. Room temperature or cold water, even warm as some people like – whatever you prefer. Place it on the desk at work in front of you as a constant reminder to sip continuously throughout the day.
Other people find they need a water ‘diet’ to help them keep on track. So for you, here is a program easily followed to ensure you are well hydrated every single day.

When you wake up you will often be thirsty because your body loses water while you are sleeping through breathing and perspiration. Drink a large glass of water with a slice of lemon for zing.

By definition, a molding is an ornamental piece of wood, metal, or plaster, used to decorate or outline something. It can be used on the interior or exterior of a home. Moldings frame walls, ceilings, windows, and door openings. Examples of moldings used to decorate with are baseboards, crown molding, and chair rails. Today, I want to talk exclusively about crown molding as a decorative architectural choice.

The initial use of a cornice in building design is anyone’s guess. By the time the ancient Greeks had gained power, rules had already been created to define the use and design of crown molding. Originally, it was used as a structural element to help support the weight of the roof. It also served to keep water away from the building, thus protecting the lower walls and the foundation. However, the use of cornice as a decorative element was not considered any less important than it’s more utilitarian functions. Most of the ornamental design patterns that you see on today’s crown molding originated from the ancient Greeks. Egg and dart, dentil and acanthus leaf are the most obvious examples and these were used extensively in ancient times by both the Greeks and the Romans.

With the rebirth of the arts in the Renaissance period came a renewed interest in classical architecture as well. The rules of the classical orders were applied to the interior decoration of rooms. These were the rules of “3”. A column, the basis of classical architecture, is divided into 3 parts: base, shaft and capital. The base and the capital were then further divided into 3 parts and prescribed rules applied to the relationship and the proportion of these divisions as well. The same divisions that apply to a column are also applied to the wall. The wall is divided into the baseboard, the wall and a crown molding. The lower wall can be further divided into the base, dado and chair rail. Finally, the upper wall is divided into the picture molding, frieze and crown molding.

When beginning any decorative project to include several types of molding, it is recommended that you choose the style and size of crown molding first, as it is the most prominently displayed. Then select the rest of the moldings to match. Regarding the proper sizing of the crown molding, advice is abundant and many guidelines have been written. Most often the advice directs you to select the size of the crown molding based on the height of your ceiling. This may be a common approach to this aspect of the design process, though, as larger crown moldings have often been used to impressively decorate rooms of more modest proportions. What IS important is to properly scale the casings and other moldings to the size of the crown molding that you wish to use. When choosing crown molding for your interior, feel free to select the size and style that YOU like. Historically, larger crown moldings were more frequently used than what is recommended today by many interior designers. Change is anticipated as the current architectural renaissance continues and more designers and homeowners endeavor to add warmth to their homes and to personalize their interiors. Obviously, there is a lot of room for personal judgment as to what goes with what, since modernist anything always was designed not to look as though it belonged to a particular period of time. It can be even more confusing if your modernist-looking furniture was really just designed to look spare in a general way rather than to hark to a particular school of design. In those cases, just try to go for something that looks like it matches, sticking to prints of artworks that are modern but that are not immediately recognizable as belonging to a specific decade.

If your furniture leans toward the 1950s and 60s style of modernism (the kind of playful curves that would be at home in a room with a sunburst clock on the wall), try prints of the work of a period artist such as Jackson Pollack. If your d cor’s modernism leans toward the seventies or eighties (e.g., glass-topped coffee tables and very spare design, you might be better off with Jasper Johns than Jackson Pollack.

* Minimal does not necessarily mean subdued. Just look at the vibrant paintings of modern artist Mondrian, such as “Broadway Boogie Woogie”, composed entirely of interlocking rectangles, square, triangles, and circles. If you’d like to keep your d cor simple even with a striking color scheme, art prints can actually help. Here’s why:

The Low Down Dirty Truth about Losing Weight and Dieting

All right, lets get down to it. Who of us doesn’t already know how to lose weight really? Its not as if it was that much of a mystery. Are you tired of people saying, “You should lose weight. You would feel so much better about yourself.” Hogwash. Why should how we look affect how we feel about ourselves? In fact, I feel these well intentioned statements help set us up for diet failure.
We all would like to lose weight fast or burn fat easily, but lets face it…dieting is very hard work. You will bleed more sweat and tears dieting then you will at your own job. Have you ever stopped to think…How fast did I put on this weight? Believe me, you didn’t just gain 10 pounds in a week so how can you expect yourself to lose that much in that little amount of time. In my own battle of the bulge over the years, I feel that what led to repeated failure for me was setting these unrealistic goals. Also, I think you need to start of in the frame of mind that you are doing this for yourself, because you love yourself and your worth it. Not for some idea that once you lose all that weight and become thin that suddenly you are going to feel better about yourself. Its not true. In fact, in my own case after loseing 100 pounds and attaining that size 6 goal, I was more miserable then ever. I still had not fixed the problem of loving and accepting myself. Once you do this you have a better chance of having diet success.
The other mistake that dieters make is that we tell or believe that we have to deprive ourselves of the foods we love to attain success. We are already setting ourselves up for failure if we do this. Our lives are already filled with mutliple stressors such as work, raising a family, paying bills, and just not having enough time to do the things we love. Why does food have such a hold on us? Because it is an instant gratification and one thing that we can look forward to that we will make time for. Yes, reading a good book, working on a craft project, or watching a great movie would be nice too, but who has the time. It only takes 10 minutes to eat a food we really enjoy and it SATISFIES us. So contemplating telling yourself that you can no longer have that is wrong. What we need to control is the portions. Do you really need a whole piece of cake of just half of it? Don’t count calories, don’t lose the carbs, and don’t cut the fat. Fast food has become such a phenomenon because its quick and takes very little time as well as tasting good. What makes it taste so good. I will tell you….FAT. So completely cutting fat out of your diet takes out flavor and hence decreases the one pleasure many of us have in life of eating. Now the problem with fast food is that it uses TOO much fat. You should still be very aware of the amount of fat you use but foods you eat should still taste good. Research has shown that even low fat foods because they taste fatty, fool the body into storing them as fat. So in the end you are not winning. So continue to enjoy your food but work on the portion aspect of meals. If you want more chocolate cake then maybe cut back on the aount of potatoes or bread you eat that day, but by all means, have the chocolate cake. Count each new day as a start no matter how many times you have failed. Keep trying till you get it right.
Back to setting unrealistic goals. Excercise is important. It helps with heart health and cirulation as well as getting rid of toxins in your system. Here again, you need to set realistic goals. If you haven’t excercised in 6 months or a year, then set a goal of working out for 5 minutes a day. Now come on…who of us couldn’t find 5 minutes to move our body. Do that for 1 week and then increase to 10 minutes the second week. Repeat until you reach 20 to 30 minutes a day. You don’t need to do more than this to have a healthier body. I know in my busy work schedule an hours time was too precious to sacrafice but 30 minutes seemed more realistic.
These are just ideas to get you started. The biggest step you can take right now is to sit down and list the top 10 reasons why you want to lose weight. Remember that if you think you will feel better about yourself if you were thin and looked great that isn’t always true. Figure out now how to love and appreciate yourself and life and you will find that dieting becomes easier.
I know there are a lot of diet products out there and sorting through them all can become overwhelming. I feel that Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, South Beach Diet, and Low Carb Dieting are all valid programs but only if they work for you. The moment you feel deprived you can expect that you will start to falter in reaching your weight loss goals. Find the diet that works for you and until that time, just work on eating smaller portions and working out for 5 minutes. You can do it!
Two products that helped me reach my weight loss success are listed below but I don’t want you to feel that you have to use them. Again diets need to be individualized. The reason I liked these products was that they allow you to do whatever diet suits you best but helps you curb those cravings that overwhelm us and also boosts energy so excercise doesn’t seem so tedious.
